Sub: Extension of date for supply of relevant information till 30.09.2020, as per the prescribed format, sent by virtue of the above referred letter.
Ma’am(s)/Sir(s),
In view of the requests received from various quarters including various Bar Associations and State Bar Councils to extend the last date for furnishing the information as per the format required by the e-Committee of the Supreme Court of India, on account of hardships being faced due to Covid 19, it is hereby informed to all that the time period is hereby extended till 30.9.2020. It should be ensured that by such date the required information should be supplied by the respective Bar Associations to the email id bci.scinfo@gmail.com.
Individual Advocates who are not members of any Bar Association may kindly furnish such information to the concerned State Bar Councils and the State Bar Councils may further furnish such information to Bar Council of India. It is hereby clarified that on 2.5.2020 an email was sent by the Bar Council of India to All State Bar Councils asking for information as required by the e- Committee of the Supreme Court. Thereafter, the same was also followed up with the respective Secretaries of the respective State Bar Councils repeatedly both by way of whatsapp and telephonic calls. However as the information which was received from some State Bar Councils was inadequate and in fact some State Bar Councils were unable to furnish any information at all, which they stated was on account of difficulties due to Covid 19, therefore, it was deemed necessary to issue the letter dated 24.7.2020. It is hereby clarified that the E-Committee of the Supreme Court has a scheme to train Advocates and make them computer friendly. It is for such purpose that this information is required. Thus this information is specifically required for the benefit of Advocates, both for the older generation and for the younger generation. It will be advantageous for every Advocate of the Country to be armed with technical know how, so that they become trained and adept at e-filing, virtual hearing etc., which, can be put to best use by them as per their need. Knowledge and training never harms, it is always rewarding and holds value. These are the schemes of the Union Government and the Supreme Court of India. Bar Councils are also going to undertake such training programmes. Infact, certain State Bar Councils have already started doing it.
The purpose of creating a whatsapp group is again solely aimed for the assistance and benefit of Advocates. Such groups are meant to give access and information about various important resolutions/circulars of BCI/State Bar Councils and for providing other important relevant information/s and also for resolution of contemptuous issues.
Therefore, all Bar Associations are requested to kindly furnish such information without issues/delay on any count, in supplying such information and thus contributing towards the larger goal and picture of benefit of Advocates as a whole and individually, and thus aiding the entire legal fraternity, well before the date of 30.09.2020.
A copy of this letter is also being forwarded to the Secretaries of State Bar Council’s for ensuing proper compliance and for doing the needful. Yours sincerely,
( Srimanto Sen)
