Report of Supreme Court appointed Committee on legal education reform

During the course of hearing of a matter relating to the affiliation of a college with the Bar Council of India (Bar Council of India v. Bonnie FOI), the Supreme Court of India decided to address the crucial issue of reform in legal education. Through an order dated 29 June, 2009, the Supreme Court noted the low standards of legal education and constituted a committee to address the issue of affiliation with the Bar Council of India. Mr. Gopal Subramanium, who is today the Chairman of the Bar Council of India, Mr. S. N. P. Sinha, the former Chairman of the Bar Council of India and Shri. M. N. Krishnamani, the former President of the Supreme Court Bar Association were members of this committee, with Mr. Subramanium as Chairman.
